3.5 out of 5 ‘Dirty (Good) boy’ Stars
I read the blurb. Then I read the book. I liked the characters….separately. I don’t think that that’s happened to me in a long time. I thought the characters were great individually; but together there was no…spark. I didn’t feel the connection.
Katrina (“Kat” – ugh I hate when people shorten a name to Kat. Why? I don’t even know but I just can’t call people Kat.) ANYway, she’s had her fair share of douchebags and her dad hasn’t really inspired confidence in that department either; so I’d say that Katrina’s past and present make her a little skeptical of the opposite sex. Couldn’t agree more when looking from her standpoint.
Then there’s Derrick The Love Whisperer who is a high school/college football player turned sex/relationship radio talk show host. His on-air persona is one of confidence and in your face advice that seems to draw the listeners each night with a very wide variety of topics. If I knew of a radio show that existed like this I’d certainly tune in too!! One night Katrina calls into Derrick’s show about cheaters and he suggests that she give him a call after she dumps her boyfriend–just to let him know how it goes. Suuuuuurrrrrreeee. Yeah ok.
The beginning of the book was super steamy with the sexting and phone sex/video sex and then the actual sex sex. But after that coming together moment, the story fizzled out for me. They both decided to maybe get to know each other more and possibly start a relationship. A little ass-backwards but ok it was very real life. Katrina put a kabosh on having sex with Derrick until they got to know each other better. And not to say that I was just looking for them to have sex but I feel like it distanced them (in my eyes) rather than increased the chemistry. Kinda drained the chemistry.
So while Derrick did have some serious ‘Dirty Talk,’ he was truly a good guy looking for a happily ever after and having fun until he found it. All in all it was a good read but I just didn;t feel the connection like I hoped I would.
