Pretty Reckless, an all-new standalone high school, bully romance from USA Today bestselling author L.J. Shen, is available now!
We were supposed to be best friends
But turned out to be worst enemies…
They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me, and now my heart is completely iced.
I took her first kiss.
She took the only thing I loved.
I was poor.
She was rich.
The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast.
Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project.
Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much.
Yeah, baby girl, say it—I’m your foster brother.
There’s a price to pay for ruining the only good thing in my life, and she’s about to shell out some serious tears.
Daria Followhill thinks she is THE queen. I’m about to prove to her that she’s nothing but a spoiled princess.
Everyone loves a good-old, unapologetic punk.
But being a bitch? Oh, you get slammed for every snarky comment, cynical eye roll, and foot you put in your adversaries’ way.
The thing about stiletto heels is that they make a hell of a dent when you walk all over the people who try to hurt you.
In Penn Scully’s case, I pierced his heart until he bled out, then left it in a trash can on a bright summer day.
Four years ago, he asked me to save all of my firsts for him.
Now he lives across the hall, and there’s nothing I want more than to be his last everything.
His parting words when he gave me his heart were that nothing in this world is free.
Now? Now he is making me pay.
4 out of 5 ‘All the high school drama and more’ Stars
So let me start by saying that I love L.J. Shen. She is a mastermind. Seriously. Magic in the form of words.
This book….to revisit the town of Todo Santos and all the characters that we all love was just as awesome as when I first read the Sinners of Saints series. All our favorites made appearances but now we are back with their children. I have to admit that Daria is not my favorite. I didn’t really care for her. She was shallow, spoiled, vain, petty, vindictive, jealous and had a serious false sense of entitlement. With that being said, she was so relatable on many levels. As a high school girl, I can say that I had some of the thoughts or said some of the things that she said but never to the extent that Daria took it to. And instead of communicating (which most know as a teenage girl is difficult to do) she brought her own demise on herself.
Penn’s character, on the other hand, I liked very much. He was a victim of circumstance and attempted to rise above it as much as he could. He tried to do the right thing- for the most part- and played the game as good as the game creator himself.
This book had all the emotional warfare and drama that you would expect from a high school filled with rich, spoiled kids. I’m excited about upcoming stories with all the crumbs that the author fed us throughout the story. Who’s next? I’m hoping it’s Knight and Luna because that story is going to be epic (no pressure or anything). Or Vaughn? Will his story be as awesome as his dad’s? OMGEEEE! The waiting will certainly make me go crazy.
